Q What is Tensile Sculpture?
It is our term for the functional artworks we design and manufacture. They provide shade and an aesthetically pleasing focal point. "Tensile" because the fabric canopy is shaped and held in tension. "Sculpture" because they are three-dimensional forms that are
pleasing to the eye.
Q What do you mean by pre-engineered?
Unlike our custom designed structures these are ready to install. Their size and configuration is established and will not vary.
Q How are TENSILE SHADE PRODUCTS, LLC structures installed and who does it?
We provide sample foundation plans which are engineered for typical soil conditions in Arizona. You must have a licensed structural engineer provide foundation plans appropriate for your site’s soil conditions. We provide detailed installation instructions. Experienced contractors are familiar with providing foundations and erecting structures. We can provide referrals to vetted installer(s) whom the end-user may contract with separately.
Q Are they durable?
Yes, very much so. Steel support structures are permanently installed on a concrete foundation. The metal finish is very durable. Canopy fabric is fire rated and has 10-year UV warranty from the manufacturer.
Q What about severe weather conditions?
All Tensile Shade Products, LLC structures are engineered to survive common weather. While the canopy can withstand heavy
winds, it is not intended to remain up in hurricane or tornado conditions, or to withstand snow loading. In Sun Belt locations the
canopy is generally left up year round. In harsher climates it is a relatively simple task to remove the canopy and re-install it when
the season permits.

Q How much do they cost?
TENSILE SHADE PRODUCTS, LLC structures are competitively priced and start at $4695. Final prices will vary based on finish selection and optional packages (i.e., lighting). Please contact us for details. They are very cost effective when the price is factored over the life of the installation, together with value added by function and visual enhancement.
Q Can the structure be customized? Can the canopy be changed?
The structure design and canopy shape are fixed. If you have a special height requirement, please let us know. There are several finish options for metal supports. Replacement canopies can be ordered should you want a different color or if damage occurs.
Q What if my site requires greater coverage or more shade than your specs indicate?
While each structure’s size is fixed, they have been designed to work in multiples. Several structures can be utilized to create impressive compositions which greatly increase shade coverage. Examples are available on each of our product spec pages in the configuration drawings section.
Q What is the lead-time?
Our production schedule is 6 – 8 weeks from the time your order is placed (and your deposit received). If units are in stock, then delivery will be sooner. Bear in mind time must be allocated for your structural engineer and builder to prepare the foundation.
